Creative Planning Ideas: Vision Boards, Planners, and More

The end of January can sometimes leave us feeling like we’re behind if we haven’t made vision boards, set goals, or picked up a planner. Here’s the truth: it’s never too late! You don’t have to start on January 1st for your dreams and goals to matter—whatever feels right for you this year is perfect.

Vision Boards

Vision boards are one of my favorite creative planning ideas. I hang mine where I can see it regularly, and it makes me smile all year long.

If you’re not into cutting and pasting, a digital vision board might be a great option. You can create one with a Pinterest board or by gathering inspiring images and making a collage in Canva. For me, I always prefer the tactile process of making a physical vision board, but it’s all about what works best for you.

Here’s my vision board from this year! I’d love to see yours—whether it’s paper or digital!

Planners

If you’ve struggled with planners in the past, you’re not alone. It took me years to find one that worked for me. The key is figuring out how your brain naturally organizes information. Do you love time-blocking? Prefer loose lists? Need a mix of both? Do you thrive with daily layouts, or do monthly overviews feel better?

Finding a planner that aligns with your natural way of thinking makes all the difference. My personal favorite is the horizontal weekly planner from Laurel Denise. It’s been a game-changer for me, and I’ve shared it with others who’ve loved it too. If you’re still on the hunt, this might be worth checking out!

No matter what planner you choose, the most important thing is to find one that fits your brain and planning style. When a system works for you, it’s so much easier to stick with it.

What’s Your Next Step?

With these creative planning ideas in mind, what’s one small step you can take to wrap up this month’s hobby? Maybe it’s finishing—or starting—your vision board, creating a digital one on Canva or Pinterest, trying junk journaling, picking out a planner, or making a fun bingo card for the year ahead.

Whatever it is, I’d love to see how you’ve embraced this month’s theme of creative planning. Here’s to making small, meaningful progress toward your goals—at your own pace!
